My Approach
It’s not uncommon for someone to enter therapy with no clear sense of where to start – they simply want things to change for the better and to feel like themselves again. You are the expert of your own experience, but it’s easy to lose your way and feel lost when in distress. I will meet you wherever you are and help you piece things back to a sense of what normal feels like for you.
The best approach is one that works for you, so I may draw on several different approaches to therapy, all of which have been shown to help individuals reduce stress, gain clarity, and make changes in their lives. They include:
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
• Acceptance and Commitment (ACT)
• Person-Centered Therapy
• Narrative Therapy
• Culturally Sensitive Therapy
Types of Sessions
At this time, all sessions will be remote/virtual video sessions and take place through a fully HIPAA compliant platform called SimplePractice. This is a great option for accessibility and flexibility, but please be sure to first, consider whether this is the most appropriate option for you at this time. Prior to your first session, I will ask that you complete an intake questionnaire. This is to ensure I have a general understanding of what brings you to therapy. Following this questionnaire, visits with me typically involve two types of sessions:
Intake Session: Consultation, Assessment, and Planning (60 minutes)
It’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist. For this reason, the first phase of this session consists of a free 15-minute initial consultation. This consultation helps you decide whether the therapeutic relationship will be the best fit. At this time, it’s important for you to decide whether you’d like to take some time to think and/or consider other options. If comfortable, we can move forward with the Assessment and Planning phase on the same day, which is focused on learning more in depth about you, your history, and what brings you to therapy. The Assessment and Planning phase may take more than one session and will allow me to begin putting together a plan for future sessions. All follow up sessions after the initial intake session will be considered a regular therapy sessions.
Intake Out-of-Pocket Rate: $275 minimum deposit
*Please plan for 60 minutes. However, if within the first few minutes of your first session (the consultation phase), we feel the therapeutic relationship may not be the best fit or you’d like to think on it, we will discuss next steps and you will be refunded in the full amount.
Regular Therapy Sessions (45 minutes)
Following the Assessment and Planning phase, we’ll decide when and how often to meet. Session time frames depend on your treatment needs and personal circumstances and are guided by the plan we develop together.
Regular Therapy Session Out-of-Pocket Rate: $175 minimum deposit
*Please note that extended sessions will be prorated and charged after the session. While not always feasible, please make efforts to discuss the need for extended sessions prior to booking.
Payment Options
Private Pay
I currently only accept private pay. With private pay, you will be provided with automatic invoices, statements, and superbills for any needed reimbursements from your insurance company. Often times, your insurance benefits may cover the majority of the cost of therapy. I recommend calling your insurance provider to learn more about how reimbursement works.
Cancellation Policy
All clients are required to have an active card on file at the time of scheduling an appointment. For appointment no-shows or last-minute cancellations, you will be charged a fee regardless of reason. This is necessary, as a time commitment is made and held exclusively for you. These fees will act as a deposit towards rescheduled/future sessions. If within the first few minutes of your first session (the consultation phase) you and your therapist feel the therapeutic relationship may not be the best fit, we will continue by discussing next steps and you will be refunded in the full amount.
About Me
I hold a PhD in Social Work and I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I received my PhD from the University of Alabama, my MSW from the University of Georgia, and BA from The University of Alabama. I have multiple years of clinical experience among various populations (children, teens, and adults), various backgrounds, and in numerous settings (residential, inpatient, outpatient, private practice).
I am someone with whom people generally feel at ease and comfortable, which is an important part of what makes therapy work. My initial goal within the therapeutic relationship is to provide you with just that: a safe and comfortable place, where you feel at ease to talk about things that matter to you.
